Educational Apple Orchard / Farm Tours / School Field Trips
(Preschool, Kindergarten, Grades 1 - 2)
 

Load up your class or school group and head on down to Stepp's Hillcrest Orchard for a HANDS-ON FARM EXPERIENCE and EDUCATIONAL ORCHARD-FARM TOUR geared to grades preschool to second grade. Click Here for Tour Details

  • Weekday Tours - 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. (call for weekend tour times).
  • Tour lasts approximately 1 1/2 hours.
  • Teacher and Assistant - No Charge.
  • Picnic Area Available

All School Tours include:

  • WAGON RIDE - Tractor pulled wagon ride with tour guide;
  • APPLES and/or PUMPKINS TO PICK - Stop to pick 1/4 peck bag of apples from trees and/ or choose a 3-5 lb. pumpkins from the pumpkin patch.
  • INTERACTIVE EDUCATION FARM LESSON (See Details)
  • CORN MAZE - One-half Acre Educational Corn Maze - Children answer questions about farm to maneuver their way through the maze
  • SOYBEAN TRAIL / MAZE - Travel a winding path through a field of soybeans
  • FRESH APPLE CIDER - Sample a cup of local fresh apple cider
  • FARM TOUR GUIDE - All activities led by a farm tour guide

INTERACTIVE EDUCATIONAL FARM LESSON DETAILS:

Childrens | School Group Tour | NC Farm & Orchard

School Group Farm Tour | Garden Demonstration

Preschool- Children engage in sorting apples by color and size; learn about parts of an apple and taste a fresh apple.

Kindergarten - Observe and describe a variety of apples, learn parts of an apple and their purpose, enjoy a tast of a fresh apple, compare apples and a pumpkin. Lesson correlates with these NC Schools Course of Study programs:

Healthful Living: 4:01, 4:02, 4:03
Science: 3:01, 3:02, 3:03

First Grade - Children observe a variety of fruits and vegetables grown on the farm and participate in a game that demonstrates four things plants need to grow. Lesson correlates with these NC Schools Course of Study programs:

Healthful Living: 4:01, 4:02
Science: 1:01, 1:02, 1:04

Second Grade - Students will participate in an interactive activity observing the different life states of an insect living on the farm.

Science: 1:03
Healthful Living: 4:01
